The guy who said the sound was bad was right. I was in the balcony, too, and Dave LaRue sounded like he was playing inside a plexi-glass cage. The playing was tremendous, but the sound sucked. I am a huge Eric Johnson fan, but Eric's guitar sounded horrible through the PA. He played great and so did Joe but most of the night it sounded like you were out in the parking lot hearing the band's sound bleed through the building. I am thrilled that Joe is using Dave LaRue this tour. I'm a huge Dave fan from his work with the Steve Morse Band. There is no better bass player anywhere. It was a huge bonus to see Eric as the first act and a pleasure to see Dave playing bass for Joe. My brother & I drove up from Tulsa for the show. It would be great if somebody in Tulsa could step up & book Joe into my town. I saw him at Cain's ballroom in Tulsa back in about '96 (another great venue but famous for terrible sound). Believe it or not the sound at the Uptown was worse, and that's saying something since I'm convinced the sound man at Cain's is stone deaf!

The show was great me and my brother drove over 600 miles to see it, and lucky we where able to meet Joe quickly after the show. it was so mind blowing to see the music that has changed me be played less then 20 feet away from me, not only from Joe but Eric also, Since I discoverd Eric since my parents like cliffs of dover. Which then lead me to G3. the 1st time I saw flying I was hooked.. seeing Joe open the show with it just sent chills up my spine I hope this the 1st of many times i will get to see Joe. I would drive the 600 miles again in a heartbeat to see him play.
Thanks again Joe for the music..

I've been following Joe Satriani's music since 1986. I knew that this concert was going to be good. At the end of the evening, it had totally exceeded my expectations. The atmosphere at the Uptown Theater in Kansas City MO is a pretty casual one. It's a fairly small place, which allows you to get up close to the performing artists. The concert was opened by Eric Johnson - a highly accomplished and respected guitarist in his own right. If the crowd needed any warming up to begin with, by the end of his 45 minutes, they were motivated well enough. After a brief 15 minute interval, the real show began. Joe and his band began with an older favorite - "Flying in a Blue Dream" (one of the best songs to open a concert with, in my opinion), before going back and forth between some older classics - "The Extremist", "Ice #9", "Surfing with the Alien" and "Lords of Karma" - and new releases from the "Super Colossal" album. Unlike a lot of other artists, Joe has a very congenial and easy going demeanour on stage. He gets along with the crowd really well, and carries himself fairly casually. One of the nice things about this concert is Joe's image - clean and casual. Here's one of the best guitarists in the world, performing in very casual attire while maintaining a clean image. And as always, very graciously agreeing to do an encore! Encores started off with my new personal Joe Satriani favorite - "Crowd Chant" - at this point, the entire crowd was on their feet, cheering him on - and finished up with "Summer Song". Definitely one of the most enjoyable concerts that I have been to off late!

I've seen Joe twice in Denver (2000, 2001) and once here at Uptown and I think this was the best so far. I really enjoy Super Colossal! I talked my pregnant wife into going to the show on her 30th birthday and she had a blast as well. This was the first time she'd really felt the baby move around! Joe, you woke her up! It was a real treat to see Eric Johnson! I'd always wanted to see him, but never been able to. While his tunes are more mellow these days, it was great to see his ability to do anything he desires on the guitar. Eric, you're amazing! I thought the sound was fine in the balcony. I got one word for you guys who can't hear anything for all the volume...Hearos. They make Hi-Fi earplugs that work wonders and in 20 years, you'll still be able to listen to your Satriani CDs. I won't go to a concert without 'em.

Joe's playing was amazing! Wish I could have heard it clearly and enjoyed it. The volume, sound pressure level, was so high my ears overloaded after the first song. After that song the rest of the concert sounded like one giant mass of distortion with Joe's guitar ocasionally present. The drummer's kick drum was so loud it completely covered up the bass player and most of his other drums including the cymbals! Only heard bass when the drummer stopped playing. Could not hear the rythm guitar player at all, except when the drummer stopped playing. He might as well have stayed home. Same for the bass player. I'm sure it sounded great on stage but out in front of the house PA it was a disaster. Summary: Joe is the most incredible guitar player I have ever seen! Unfortunately, the concert sounded like a massively distorted jumble of sound and the drummer's kick drum. Joe deserves a better PA / sound board crew so we can truely hear and appreciate his talent. I have never heard a live concert sound mix that poorly done. Joe however IS the best!

My dad handed me "Surfing with the Alien" when I was 13 years old. Listening to the music really made me think... and I haven't stopped thinking since. Since then, his music has played a central role in the formation of myself, helping me along with the intense ballads and soothing tunes he lets out non-stop. Saw him when he came here to St. Louis in late 2004 with my bud Tom, and the two of us drove four hours there and back to see him again. Absolutely AMAZING to finally see him play "Surfing" live! And I was shouting along with "Crowd Chant" as loudly as I could! Joe was gracious as ever, funny (as when he almost skipped a song, commenting that, "That's the downside of wearing sunglasses on stage, makes it hard to read the setlist here..."), and a perfect performer. I can't wait to see him again, maybe even get a "Meet and Greet," if I can. It'll be worth it! As I (accidentally) said on the way home: "Unbe-f***ing-credible!" ~Tim, aka SilverKnight9

Joe, you are awesome! I saw you jam in K.C. last night, and it was a real treat. I enjoyed the blend of old and new songs, as well as the blazing pyrotechnics which are so prevalent on your albums. I enjoyed Eric as well, even though we felt the sound man hindered him a little bit in a few spots. All of the musicians in your band are top-notch and appeared to really enjoy performing with you (who wouldn't?)!
Anyway, keep up the awesome work!

The show last night at the Uptown was possibly the best night of my life.
Eric Johnson made for a great opening act. He played for about an hour and really got everyone warmed up well. You could tell he was getting pretty tired by the end, but he gave it all.
After a good 20 minutes of set change, Satch and the band started off the rest of the night with Flying In A Blue Dream which got it kicked off pretty nice. Everyone was SPOT ON! The combination of Jeff's perfect drum sound, Joe's crushing tone and Dave's snappy bass groove meshed perfectly.
On that note, I had my reservations about having a new bassist on the tour, but as soon as the band popped into Cool #9, I realized that Dave LaRue is a BEAST! Joe and Dave looked like they'd been jamming together for years. The chemistry on-stage was definitely there 100%.
Joe, Dave, Galen, Jeff: If you are reading this, THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR A KILLER SHOW! I'm still feeling the adrenaline rush from Summer Song
