I'm going to sound like a broken record compared to all these other postings, but Joe Satriani is playing the best I've ever heard him play. Maybe part of it is playing extended jams, or mixing in some songs that aren't on the typical setlist as of late. Regardless, it was truly a pleasure to witness your guitar mastery. My personal highlight songs from the show were Up in the Sky (great opening song), Cool #9 (especially with the intro...my goodness, you simply can not improve on that song anymore, cuz it's perfect), Hordes of Locust, Lords of Karma, and Flying in a Blue Dream. Psycho Monkey was great too! I would have really liked to have heard If I Could Fly off of the new album, because I think that is one of your funner, feel good type of songs. Hopefully another time. Thanks again for comming to Portland.

What more can be said that hasn't already. Joe, you continually amaze me every time I see you. Like a fine wine, you have gotten so much better with age. PORTLAND loves you!! My brother in law and sister were sitting in the balcony and commented when it was all over, how "in to it" the crowd was. Like they had never witnessed before. That was my wife and my's 11th time seeing you since 95 and the joy your music brings our houshold is just incredible. I bought a JS beannie for my 4 year old and he didn't take it off for the first 3 hours after we got home. I'm at work at the fire station today and he called me to tell me he wore it at preschool most of the day too!! He cracks me up. Always wanting to watch Uncle Joe and Jeff "Campmaterry" on the DVD.... hahahaha Such a young fan.. I hope I can take him to see you in a couple of years. Take care brother and get some rest. If your're ever in Bend, Oregon to snowboard, look us up!! TheFireman

Well, Portland was the 5th show we'd seen for this particular tour...great show guys, loved every minute of it and left wanting more...but wait, we DID get more in Reno the next night!! The Roseland was an interesting venue, pretty small and intimate, we got a kick out of watching Matt and Galen roll their eyes at each other, and Matt throw the poor chicken around.....and now there's 2 of them!! Somethin' going on there, behind your backs!! :) Joe, Jeff, Matt and Galen, you always play your hearts out night after night, and are truly friends with each other.. it shows in how you play, interact and support each other. The improvs just keep getting better and better.....here's hoping you never run out of inspiration. Joe, webmaster Jon, Galen and anyone else involved, thanks so much for the backstage passes you give out for every show. We always love getting the chance to talk with Joe again, and when we're standing around waiting for Joe to finish up with the Platinum folks, it's so much fun to talk to the other people with passes and watch their expressions and anticipation.....being able to meet Joe is the highlight of all our lives!! Thanks for an awesome show!!

A blistering set that was balanced in the middle by some great material done
with an electric stand up bass. Joe was clearly enjoying those numbers,
especially Moroccan Sunset. I also really liked the finish with Flying in a Blue
Dream, before the encore(Surfing with the Alien). But the best was Cool#9,
that actually went to 11. Why this guy doesn't play sold out shows at a
venue like the Schnitzer is beyond me. But as Frank Zappa once said, "most
people wouldn't know good rock music if it came up and bit 'em in the ass".
Joe Satriani, the guy tours endlessly, releases quality CD's and experiments
with his sound and technique. Still waitng for a G3 tour with Jeff Beck and Vai, now that would be some stange beautiful music, and a lot more.

This was my second time seeing Joe in concert. The first time was when he toured with Deep Purple and came to the Clark County Amphitheatre. I was right in front of the stage and heard all my favorite songs. Two songs i would have liked to hear were Crushing Day and GNaah. The most memorable moments for me will be when he played Hands In the Air and everyone was dancing. Also the encore was really fun when they played Surfing With the Alien. "Let's do some surfing!"

10 enough said!!, Been going to your shows since 95", been listening since the begining "88, but you didn't tour Idaho back then so I moved to Oregon, in late 95 and went to my first JOE EXPERIENCE on New Year's Eve, which was an event in itself, Joe you are definitely gifted at your craft, the new songs from ITLIS sounded great live, so did the rare gems, one thing that's a difinite noticeable change since then is your evolving stage presence and dialogue with the crowd,
I remember during the deep purple tour posting the question of having you spend more time on center stage as well as your right, and last night you did not disappoint, my 12 yr old daughter 13 today and I were in rows 1 and a half right in the middle of the stage, she is still on cloud 9 she finally crashed at around 3 this morning, Joe you were right there in front of us like 5 feet away every time you took center stage, excellent playing by all of you, Galen i've posted before props to you man, you keep the rhythm going and time while Joe has everyone else going just nuts, have a safe trip to the Orient and India, we'll be waiting here in portland for your next CD and tour, god bless and thanks again for a great concert, the insence burning was nice touch too. sincerely yours Fernando (Blue Buffalo)

I've seen Joe more times than I can remember, having been a fan since Surfing. This was, without a doubt, the best show I've attended. Joe, you've acheived new heights. This show was all about inspiration & improvisation, IMHO. The extended ending of AWMAWY was a personal favorite. Also enjoyed the extended romp of Bamboo. When he started into Lords of Karma, I was elated. Having never seen Joe do that song live, it was a special treat. A comment about the rest of the band... Jeff, Matt, Galen: You guys are the best. Everyone was in top form and you could tell that really put Joe in the groove for the whole night. I left the place feeling touched and inspired at a spiritual level; causing me to devote more time to my own playing. Joe was the one that really caused me to push myself to aspire to greater levels of playing and this show only helped to reinforce that. Keep on playing, Joe, and I'll keep showing up to your gigs. You are a jem in the history of guitar playing and I feel both privileged and honored to be able to see you live. All the best! UrlFlynn (Dave Keeton)

Joe everybody loves you & rightfully so, but I'd like to take a minute & give praise to the awesome rhythm section!Galen had just the right touch on the songs he played.Matt I've always admired you & your brothers work, what genes in that family! And Jeff, you my friend you are the ultimate percussionist for Joe! I've seen all the greats from the mighty Mover & Manui & Gregg too, but you Jeff, you & Joe together are something very special! What really stands out to me is the fun & enjoyment you guys seem to have playing. And to still have that spark after so many shows, recordings & years together that truly is a gift from some where!A Incredible nucleous is what comes to mind when you all take the stage & I thank you all for letting us take a glimpse of literally true musical genius at play.A toast to you & the boys Joe,here's to another 20+ years of strange beautiful music, from me,all your fans & rock&roll.....WE THANK YOU!!! The first time I have seen Joe and company enjoy stretching out into jams; they appeared to be having fun, and the music was terrific. "Bamboo" was a highlight for me. The audience was relaxed but into the music; last time Joe played the Roseland, some audience members were acting out / weird. Jeff's drumming was incredibly varied. Matt's playing was "in the groove" and the sound was, indeed, felt in the chest!

It's a good thing that my ears cannot spew liquids or I would have been dancing in a puddle all night. Total eargasms!!!! I loved every second of it ( even the part I missed because of wrongly thinking that the show started at 9:00). The only thing better than listening to Joe "go off" is hearing him do it all night live 'n' loud. The Roseland is an OK venue but it sure would be wonderful to see (and hear) the show done at the Paramount or the Civic next time. Better acoustics and a seat for everyone to use or stand in front of for everyone. No more missing of any of the show trying to find an open spot against the wall. But even if I had to stand on my head in a basement full of water, I'd do it to see Joe again!!

The mix was pretty good considering I was stage right in front of the PA. I ended up moving more towards the middle of the stage by the start of the second set, which probably saved my hearing (no earplugs). Setlist was the same as the Vegas show. Good energy once again... Thanks for making it back to Portland and also for taking time to visit with those who couldn't get aftershow passes.
