HI, just a quick word. This was one of the coolest shoews/performances I have ever seen . The setting was intimate, there was'nt a bad seat in the house, shit the lobby was a good seat.I saw other reviews that gave yngwie a bad rap, He was YNGWIE, if your in to it was great. Joe and steve were great at what they do as well. I have to admit Joe definitely has a very unique demeanor on and off stage, just brilliant. I was luckyh enough to score passes for after the show from vais sight and joe was sooooooooooooo nice , so was steve. But i spent almost 5 minutes just talking to him and there was a LINE. he even took a cd of me to listen too. At one point I saw the "security" hasseling him aabout taking too long and he actually raised his voice a bit and told him to chill out. He was just soo cool (and soft spoken) It was a great experiance . plus I got a pic with him and my finacee. Steve was also very cool but joe is just such an interesting guy

This was my second time seeing Joe, and first for Vai and Yngwie. To start with, Yngwie is one goofy guy. He was kicking at the audience even when he was not playing, swinging the guitar around his neck like a madman, taking the guitar off of his neck and spinning or swinging it around, as well as throwing it in the air. He played very well, but because of all of the showy things just mentioned; His guitar rung out alot in between his bits of playing as well as when he was changing his hand position from beneath the neck to on top of it. Secondly, Vai is awesome. He played most of the songs that I could have hoped for him to play. Including; For the Love of God, The Reaper, Get the Hell Out of Here, and Juice (among others). His band was amazing, Billy Sheehan and Tony MacAlpine, that's insane. Last was Joe. He was amazing as always. The only thing I had hoped was different was the setlist. I want to here more different songs in his setlist. I know that it is the fans fault that the poor guy has to play the same songs every show, but I would have like some different songs. Although, Mystical Potato Head Groove Thing is always welcome. I loved Joe, don't get me wrong, I just hope that next time the setlist is different. Watching them play together was great as well. They all sounded amazing. However, at this point in the show I was a bit disgusted with the drunk guy in front of me vomitting on the seat next to him. When will venues learn not to serve alcohol at shows.

Tah Tah

YM was great. Funny as hell kicking those picks. He's a very talented player, and he really brought something different to the show. I totally enjoyed his set, which after reading all the reviews I thought I would hate it. He was rockin' his ass off. I kept asking if he had a band with him. Sooo much fog! lmao!!! You could barely see his band, and the fog made for crappy pictures, but it was fun. Steve & his band were on fire! This was by far the best band line-up yet. When they all lined up and started playing each others guitars - OMG, that was so awesome! Dave Weiner held his own with 3 of the best in the world. Mad props to him! Steve was incredible. He is one with his instrument. He knows exactly what sound he's going to pull out of it, and reacts accordingly. I'm not a huge Vai music fan, but he was killer at this show. Joe was awesome. He came out in a Ramones t-shirt, and between songs someone yelled out a song, I'm thinking it was "I wanna be sedated" and Joe had a good laugh. His set was great too. Jeff was killer, as usual, and Matt & Galen kept the groove flowing nicely. BBM, MPHGT, AWM.AWY - totally kicked my ass! I heard the guy sitting behind me say that for the jam, he was going up front to the stage. Hell, if he's going I'm going! I told my husband to watch my purse & jacket, told the guy next to me on the other side that when the jam starts I'll be doing a blow by, so keep your arms & legs tucked - I'm comin' through! ha! I made my way SMACK in the middle of the stage, right in front of Steve's mic. The jam started and YM starts singing Voodoo Child. Next thing you know, he comes over and stands right in front of me and starts rockin' out! I wouldn't have even had to fully extend my arm to touch him he was that close! (no, I didn't touch him. lol!) He did this about 4 times - almost stepped on my hand once. lol! On about the third time, I was trying to get a clear shot of Jeff with my camera. Well, I had to lean to my right, around YM's leg, and take a picture of Jeff. LOL! It was funny. I also took 2 pics of YM while he was right there, so I wasn't dissin' him. He was putting on one hell of a show! He even had on nice cologne and smelled good - that's how close he was. lol! I think it was during this time that I was watching Joe. Next thing ya know, he gave me a little wave. I thought that was so cool, but it got better. A few minutes later he looked at me again and waved and said "HI MICHELLE". Of course I didn't hear the words, but I did read his lips. Man, you almost had to pull me off the ceiling!! I waved and said "Hey Joe!" - OMG I was so blown away! Watching Joe & Steve interact during the jam was fantastic. Like everyone said, it's like they're running the same thought patterns. All they have to do is look at each other and they know what's going on in the others head. While Steve or YM would be playing their part, Joe would have his eyes closed just totally in a zone enjoying every note that was coming his way. He was so into it - damn, there ain't nothing like getting into that zone. Between songs some guy ran up onstage and gave each of the guys a hug before he was pulled off. Joe just smiled and pointed to the guy and said "my new best friend". There was another guy who was totally out of his mind when YM was playing. He was running up and down the aisle yelling and woohoo-ing. Funny as hell, but probably annoying to some ppl. It was raining a bit that night, but there were pretty many people outside. The guys slowly started to trickle out, one by one. YM went to his bus before we got out there. The other guys came out one by one, shaking hands and signing everything handed to them. I got my picture taken with Billy. He's an extremely nice guy and loves the fans. Got a picture with Steve, but not a look into the camera picture. We was doin' bidness. He was signing my stuff. Jeff went straight to the bus. I yelled "Hi Jeff" and he smiled and gave me a thumbs up. Galen was walking around and talking to everyone. Matt must have went in the bus before we got there. Talked to Jeremy Colson and thanked him for "adding some color" to the stage (he's heavily tattooed). I told him "ya gotta represent" and we had a good laugh. Joe came out and started signing stuff and shaking hands. My husband and I moved closer, and before I could say anything, Joe turned around and said "Hi Michelle, glad you could make it" and held his arms open for a hug. Yes folks, I damn near died! I gave him a big hug and said over his shoulder "awww Joe, I love you!" LOL!! We chatted a bit, and I let him get to the rest of the fans. A few minutes later we met up again, talked some more, got aaaanother hug, and he was on his way. Euphoria at it's finest!!! We met up with some fellow T2J'ers. Tomx2 and a girlfriend it was nice meeting you all. Wish we would have talked more, but I was soooo excited. John it was great finally meeting you and your wife. Rich, you know I love ya! lol! great show. yngwie was spectacular as always. i just cant understand how a guitar player can say that he was in a lower level than the other two g's but i will tell you this as a experience guitar player that i am.1- he was the only one who played without effects (just delay), 2-the only one who played an acoustic guitar 3- the only one who played without other guitar players to support him.3-and his style is baroque/classical,,,it is not for an amercian audience it is more for europeans and asians. 4-and the arpegio thing and harmonic minor scale it is his trademark, you just love it or hate it, but he is unique and the set he played wasnt the best, he got better songs. steve:,,1-if you take the whammy bar off his guitar he would not even play one single solo, but then again,,thats he's style. 2-he got the best sound.3 - the best supporting band.4-amazing techinque and total control of the whammy bar.5-too many effects!!! maybe too many. joe...1-sounds better live than in the albums. 2- precise and terryfic phrasing.3- sense of melody.4-less effects than vai and more than yngwie. 5-beatiful songs...

the jam: spectacular,,,yngwie proved that he is the same level than the others,,(i've neved doubted that,,steve and joe show that tehy are connected musically,, and yngwie was a team player, and never intimidating by no one. greta show, great guitars player.. love you yngwie, vai, satriani!!!!! bring the good guitar times again!!!!!

Wow. That's about all I can say. I'm pretty sure the show started a little late, but it started with a bang. I think they used about 80% of all their fog in that first minute; I couldn't see a thing anywhere on stage or in the first few rows. Yngwie came out, and I was amazed. All I've heard are Rising Force and the one with the orchestra, so I didn't recognize much. I've always wondered what it would be like to see an 80's guitarist, and now I know. The spinning the guitar was pretty cool (I have a heavy guitar and a small room, so I could never do that), but kicking the picks doesn't give them any distance. Everyone in Yngwie's band had a short solo, and that was pretty cool. The set seemed to last a while, and then it was just suddenly over.

It was great when Vai just wandered out on stage. He looked a little lost, and then he started with the Triple Neck Song. I was sort of disapointed when I heard that the line-up from the first G3 wasn't going to be there, but everyone I saw was better than the original. I've heard a little bit of Tony MacAlpine through Planet X, but not enough to form an opinion. My friend actually thought he was Tom Morello at first! I don't remember the name of the drummer, but he was really cool. The other guitarist's sound was a little crappy, and the sitar was pretty buzzy. Billy Shehan seemed cool, but I couldn't hear him very well. I think Vai did a great job.

Satriani. Oh my goodness, he was wearing a Ramones shirt. WHY!? Satch had the flame guitar he played the anthem with at the race, one of his chrome ones, and a red metallic one. I was disapointed when I didn't see the seven string. I really wanted to see Mind Storm again. The only ones he did that I haven't seen before were Crystal Planet and Extremist. Satch's set was extremely short (shorter than last time I saw him w/King's X and Dream Theater), and that's why the show got an 8. Well, that and Yngwie during the jam.

The jam started with a few technical difficulties, but that is to be expected. The first solos were muddy, but then they all got better. Voodoo Chile was cool, as was Little Wing. I forget which song it was during, but in the middle of one of Satch's solos, Yngwie interrupted him by starting too early! That idiot! I'm guessing that by then he was half drunk, though, so... Keep Rocking In the Free World was really cool, too. I just wish Satch and Vai had played longer.

Wow! Amazing night! Was not expecting to like Yngwie & was pleasantly surprised by him. All 3 Gs putting in a solid, fun evening of wicked guitar extravaganzas! REALLY glad I didn't miss this version of G3.

After seeing the awesome show in DC , I had to make the trip the next day ( 2 hour drive ) to see it again . There were no tickets available so after meeting the guys the day before and all they did to make my son's first concert so memorable and speaking to them for a while , I figured they would remember me and they did . Thanks again Jeff Campitelli for getting me in . Remember , all of us Italian drummers stick together . Awesome show again . Speechless with all of the performances . One problem though . The night before after the show , I told you kind of how drunk Yngwie was backstage . Anyway , in Keswick , I think he was so drunk before the show ended that he didn't even come out to sign autographs . Of course , the two professional guys , Steve and Joe , we out there . Those two are all class . Well , here's a review that not many will see . After the show and after going backstage , my friend and I that were there , we realized that it was almost 1am and we haven't eaten all day .. So , we stop in this diner about three blocks from the gig . We needed to eat plus we still had a two hour drive home . Well , as we were eating , a tour bus pulled up and I know it had to be Yngwie's because I thought for sure that there was no way the other guys got on the bus that quick .. Well , off of the bus comes Yngwie's band .. Also , there were only about 3 people in the whole diner including me and friend so it was basically empty ... So here comes members of his band , his guitar tech , and his wife April and my friend and I were wondering where Yngwie was .... His guitar tech took a menu out to the tour bus for him and I overheard that he wasn't in any condition to walk into the diner . I bet his wife would have been embarrassed . Yngwie , you are awesome .. Stop drinking .. The 80's rocker lifestyle doesn't exist anymore .. Get serious about how you treat your body and just keep jamming . Please don't become a tragedy ....

Anyway , the show was awesome . G3 for two nights in a row .. No sleep , no problem .. I drove a lot of miles but got to meet my major musical influences twice in one night . How many people get to take their son to G3 , sit in the front row , get backstage both nigts , meet the guys both nights , get pictures and autographs as well .. Totally , totally , unforgettable .. Thanks so much to Yngwie , Joe , and the master , Steve Vai .. Especially thank you to Jeff Campitelli for getting me into the Keswick show without a ticket , you are the man .. Very nice talking to you and I know we'll talk in the future too .. Also , Galen Henson , thanks for remember meeting my son the day before and asking about him without me even mentioning him .. You are all class .. Nice job backing up those guys ... You probably don't get the credit that you deserve ..

Joe , you were totally flawless both nights .. Somehow , everytime I see you , you out do yourself from the previous show .. Mr Vai , what you did for my son will touch my heart forever .. I know you will remember it as much as I will .

Eric Molinaro - Molinaro Drums

Great show!! Tickets were expensive, but clearly got my money's worth. A few minor critiques: 1) turn lead guitar up!! the bass player was louder than the main guitar on 25% of the songs. we came to hear joe steve and yngwie, not their bassists! 2) the sound on the jam is pretty much a cluster f*ck. i don't know really how you could fix it, because it is such a hectic time on stage, but your brilliant moments are being overshadowed by crappy sound there.

finally .. joe ... please play more newer stuff!! i have seen you 10 times and 70% of the songs are the same. Your last album was brilliant, you should play more off it! drop summer song, drop flying in a blue dream. the only old song should be "always with me", it is your trademark, like Vai's Love of god.

Thanks for a truely awsome show, Yngwie is a great addition, anyone who says different is a moron.

I’ll start my entirely too long review by prefacing that I am a fan of all three G’s. I haven’t seen Yngwie since ’85 and kind of stopped following him after his Odyssey album. So I was looking forward to being reintroduced to why I was first into him 19 years ago. I have been a big fan of Mr. Vai since his days with Diamond Dave and a fan of Joe’s since the day I heard the SWTA cd. I also took my son with me. He is 16 and a big fan of Joe’s. He had never seen Yngwie or Steve live. So I was really interested in his take on the show.

Yngwie: I’ve read all the complaints about his antics on stage but I went to the show with an open mind. I really didn’t mind all the kicking and guitar throwing in itself. The problem with it was that it took away from Yngwie’s ability to perform his own songs. He played portions of songs people would recognize then go off and repeat the same 5-10 runs over and over. He did however play those runs with amazing technical ability. At the end of his set I was left thinking, “Wow, this guy is technically brilliant but compared to the other two G’s he really lacked substance.” Ever met someone who uses the same big words over and over again just to show you how smart he is without really say anything of substance? It was kind of like that. His sound wasn’t bad. His band seemed like a necessary evil to him. I’m sure if he felt he could get away with not having a supporting cast he would. IMHO he could have never followed either one of the other two G’s. After the entire show was over my son said that Yngwie didn’t belong with the other two. He seemed like he was just out for himself. I still enjoy listening to Yngwie’s music but instead of being reintroduced, I was left remembering why I stopped following his career very closely. B, Mostly for amazing technical skill

Mr. Vai: Words can’t convey the experience of seeing this man perform. He has gone beyond mastery of the instrument--he has become one with it. Seeing and hearing Steve perform is as much a spiritual event as it is a musical one. His music as performed live lives and breathes. At the end of his set, my son said that he had never seen or heard anything like that before in his life and that he didn’t expect that he ever will again. You have another new fan Steve. On the ride home he asked me if I thought Mr. Vai was the greatest guitarist that ever lived and after some thought I said if you had to pick one, it would have to be Steve. He can run with anyone but no one can run with him. His band was great—very tight. His band sound was the best of the three. I wish I could say more but as I said mere words cannot covey the experience. A++, Mostly because it’s the highest grade I can give. In Matrix terms, Steve Vai is the Neo of guitar.

Joe: As many have said, Joe was Joe. His guitar sound was really good—crisp, you could hear every note. The only problem for me personally was song selection. I know a lot of people like his choices for this tour but many of them were not my favorites so I was kind of let down a little. His playing though was perfect. He is a master. He doesn’t have the presence that Steve does but you can’t fault him for that, he’s Joe not Steve and that’s why we like him. His band was solid. My son is a drummer and loves Campetelli. So it was a big thrill for him to see him live. He also loves Joe but agreed with my comment on song selection. A-, Lost an A due to song selection.

The Jam: The only thing I’ll say about this is that it really emphasized who much Yngwie is overmatched by the other two giants. I don’t want this to sound like another scathing Yngwie review. He is just not on their level. But he could be. He just needs to focus more on the music and less on the acrobatics.

Overall: A, Loved every minute of it. Thank you Joe, Steve and Yngwie.
