Hi Satch Fans! Yes I know it's over a year since this gig took place but what the hell. This was Satriani show number five for me and I rate it as one of the most memorable concerts I have ever been part of. I thought Galan was a great addition to the band (particulary on 'FIABD') The set-list was a perfect blend of new, classics, fast and slow, a pity there was no 'Rubina' this time. The highlight for me was hearing live for the first time the amazing 'The Headless Horseman' played to perfection-wow! Satch gave a truly blistering performance. A fantastic show! Thank you Joe, Jeff, Matt and Galan and come back and play the UK soon!

Hmmm... time fly's doesn't it? I was there at the Apollo with the rest of you adoring fans. What a great night! Y'see, I'd been in the studio with my band for around 10 hours before we all came out to see Joe and the gang. We'd all decided to decend on the pub around the back around 3:00pm, get a drink and get ready for the gig. I was really tired because I was playing for about 8 of the 10 hours we were in the studio, time is money etc. So, the gig starts, AWESOME! That's all I can say to describe the whole thing. I went in totally exhausted and came out feeling utterley refreshed, replenished - GOD DAMN INSPIRED! The man totally re-energised me with his music - I mean I heard it all and adreanlin went totally crazy! The sheer musicianship on stage was quite frankly frightening. The guys seem to have this "klik" and you just couldn't touch 'em. I've been privaleged to see Joe both in the UK and the USA. I've met the man a few times and had conversations with him and the session muso's he's used in the past and I can only come to one conclusion - Joe is a lovely guy. The people he jams with are lovley people and so the quality of the expression of the music he plays is truly alive. Credit where Credit is due!

Absoloutely Awesome. A year later and I'm still thinking about it. Even now I cant believe how amazing the musicianship and performance was. I'm learning all your songs Satch, one day I'll be up on the stage too lol. I've got 6 under the belt already. The concert was so amazing tho it has converted my dad to a huge fan satch now. Well done!

When I listen to music I always have felt deeply connected to the sound in a way which I seem to feel more with ( my heart? soul? or whatever it is) than rather just my ears . I'm sure you know what I mean, It's a personal experience which I could liken more to love than sound. A piece of good music leaves me feeling like I've just discovered a great admirer! Every Joe concert leaves me that way and this one was definately no exception! But the greatest thing about seeing Joe at Manchester was the feeling that one man can make me feel so good, I'm sure it did the same for everyone else who experienced it! A revelation musically ! The playing was so good it is hard to describe but it seems more real cos its visual. Thanks for a slice of your strange beautiful love cake Joe!!!! Tom Steele U.K

Great gig. First time I have seen Satch live and his ability is mindblowing. Having it in a smaller venue was a great idea, more intimate than a stadium. The only downer of the evening was he didnt play any slower number such as Love Thing or Until We Say Goodbye. Other than that a brilliant show, well worth the couple of hours drive!!! Come to Sheffield next time!

Absolutely stunning show; Joe & the boys at their best. Two and a half hours of top music by four of the top musicians around. Some material from "Strange Beautiful Music" plus some live favourites; great to hear stuff like "The Headless Horseman" and "I Believe" included in the show. And what a show! Wow! Even the (most unusual and very talented) support act was introduced by Joe himself! What a Star!

Good show right mix of new and old satch tune's Joe's playing was great, my friends and I were blown away we got home and wanted to set fire to our own guitar's as I/we will never do them justice!!! seriously though the band was good-sound was excellent, venue was a bit 70's but thats irrelevent, the only negative thing was the rhythm guitarist/tour manager looked a bit un happy/sour faced to be on stage, many of us would have gladly changed places. look forward to seeing joe again soon.

On Friday we made the trip to the NIA Academy like so many others and then sprinted through the middle of Birmingham to that grotty venue at Dale End. Joe was, as ever, superb but the sound was poor and the venue crap. We stood about 10 feet from the stage and couldn't see a thing for most of the set. It's criminal that an artist of such stature should play at such a rubbish venue. Saturday was better at the Apollo but it stil doesn't match the NIA Academy where we last saw Satch in 2000. Joe, we think its great that you and the lads visit these shores as often as you do, but please don't leave it so long until next time, and PLEASE get someone to sort some decent venues. We do have them in the UK, even though you may be wondering where!

This is the forth time that I have seen satch, and once again he shows his class I was right at the front ten foot away from him and it was amazing. Shame about the two lads jumping on stage at the end of the night. Mike Manning went from being a guitar tech to a bouncer in seconds. Joe, I know that many people worldwide request you to play in their home towns. I just want to say thanks for coming to manchester . We hope to see you there again soon. P.s. What an amazing gig. Joe and the band were truly on form, particularly in the second half - the bit after he sat down to play! Pitty he isn't a bit taller though, because we couldn't see him at all when he sat down. Great to hear some of the new stuff ans well as the old favourites. Pity we have to wait a whole year before we get to see him again. Managed to get one or two quite nice photos's despite the crowds...check 'em out

The sound was great and so was Joe. It was my second satch gig but the first was better, bissonette and hanson were very boring to watch and sp was joe in some parts. He kept repeating himself after every song which got a bit predictable and the drummer was pathetic, no energy, creativity, just plain boring. I ll just say if you want to see the ultimate in a live performance and true artist and the best musician in the world then just watch Steve Vai. He is, in my opinion, much more abstract and extravagant in his songwriting than Joe is. But none the less Joe performed well but i just prefer Vai more, Satch is like division 1 football and vai is like italian serie a.

Great balance between new and old material.
Especially moving was the calm in the middle of the show where Joe played a cople of his solo pieces, including Crystal Planet which reduced the crowd to a moved silence.

This is my first Satch gig. What a performance! I was really looking forward to this gig since watching Mr Vai last Xmas..... This blew me away.. Watching Joe play is simply mesmerizing!! I thoroughly enjoyed the night and I wished he'd play even longer but even Joe needs a break!! I really liked those prototype guitars he used on stage.... The 7 String mahogany Ibanez and the Double neck Ibanez. ...Really nice. I want them!!! Now the only thing I wished for if I was much taller. Being short like me isn't easy when you are standing.. And I was near the front as well!!!! A good night to remember.. Keep up the good work Joe..

Hi. I won't bother with the superlatives except to say that Joe was hot and it was the best satch performance of the half dozen or so that I've been too. Joe played Crushing day (I've wanted him to play that for ages) and sit a sit down bit where he played some of his earlier tunes. Absolutely great. The rest of the band was great too. Now feeling down because I haven't a got a Joe show to look forward too. - Ged

Truly stunning. (won't mention the support act!!!!) Seen Satch many times and this was his best show by far. In fact it was one of the best gigs I've been to (probably only beaten by Dream Theater performing Scenes from a Memory in 2000). The main highlight was Crushing Day (been waiting years to see how Joe did that) which was note-for-note perfect but then would you expect anything else? Joe played this with a really warm tone with what sounded like a touch of choras. All the usual favourites were performed with the new songs working much better live than on the Strange Beautiful Music album and in fact served as a respite for those of us who have seen Summer Song et al at least 5 times!! Joe also played a prototype 7 string Ibanez on Seven String and Mind Storm. This looked like it had a natural, oiled mahogany body and sounded really meaty, it was in a similar style to the JS series but seemed to have a slightly thicker body - COME ON IBANEZ, GET THIS RELEASED - MONEYs NO OBJECT!!!! On the subject of guitars - one of Joe's ChromeBoy guitars was fitted with Seymour Duncan pickups (he used this on Cool #9 and others), if anyone knows what these pickups are please E-mail me and tell all! Jeff was his usual ace self behind his drums but Stu Hamm was sorely missed - Stu seems to have this real ability to fill the space where Joe's rythym guitars usually occupy, but with Stu gone and an in-audible rythym guitarist parts of Joe's set sounded a little empty. Joe really set the stage alight last night..... although previous reviewers have noted the same interplay between Satch and the audience every night - ie he seems to have a script in mind and I can confirm (after watching his webcast) that this is true... but that matters none when the performance was as good as it was - all 2.5hrs of it!!! Here's waiting until next time.

Great gig Joe. Well Done. This was the first time I had been to see Joe. I've got all his albums but never got round to seeing him live. I went to see Vai a couple months ago when he played the Apollo. The atmosphere was better at the Vai gig coz there were no seats at the front but Vai's material, ( and don't get me wrong I like Vai ) just aint a Patch on Satch. The selection of tracks were very good well you cant please all the people all the time . I have liked to have heard Rubina's Blue Sky Happiness. Can you get that nice layered acoustic sound live? I doubt it! but I Believe was a welcome alternative. I was kinda thinking about that optimism in the song in the in the light of America's/ Worlds current situation and it was quite emotional. I thought the sound was perfect on the opener but it did deteriotate on some tracks but was generally OK. Nothing wrong with Joe's sound as its always out front. .The bass and drum mix could have fared betterfrom where I was near the front. Galen Henson was barely audible to me. It looked like his guitar cut in the middle of a song at one point. He kinda looks like Eels' Mark E Everetts dad !LOL . Thanks for the show guys.First time I ever been to a gig that lasted 2.5 hours.Shows how much Joe wants to play. or maybe he's getting his money's worth outta the band! Come Back soon!

Joe, you are the man, I saw Dream Theater here in February and they blew me away again with they're new album and I was thinking, John Petrucci's playing is just unbelieveable, he's just as good as Joe and then Satch comes along and you just think, no, Joe is on another level. Anyway, I've seen Joe play eight times now and he just seems to be getting better all the time, the new tracks are just incredible and the choice of the old tracks for me were just perfect especially "Why". The sound from where I was (on the balcony, slap bang in the middle of the PA) was spot on and Joe and the band were on fire and seemed to be loving every minute of it, I just wish I was rich so I could go over to America and watch the Satch/Dream theater shows. Thanks for an amazing show again Joe, pleeeezeee come back asap.
P.S The guy who thought Santana and Clapton were better should just go and shoot himself in the head.

WOW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! What an experience. We were on the way to the show it was 7:20 then i looked at my tickets doors open at 7!!! NO!!!!!!! i thought it would start without me being there. I was pleasantly surprised. :-) I was even more happy when we saw the location of the seats second row from the front directly in the middle! :-) THen it all went dark and joe came on stage. everyone went mad thinking this is the man behind the brilliance! Then he introduced this dude on the freless guitar. he was a bit crazy but he was ok. nothing special. Joe came on 10 minutes later and as soon as he started the front 2 rows jumped up and ran right to the front of the stage which was where we were situated all night. Flying in a blue dream was first. he played all my fav songs and "I believe was amazing!!!!" starry night was good and he played 2 good songs using the prototype ibanez 7 string. i then got a plec thrown right at me and it hit me in the eye and the guy behind flashed his camera on the fllor and picked it up as i was searching for it. i was so gutted :-'( . then there was another thrown really close to it and a friend with me go it. at the end he played friends and the last plec was thrown to the edge of the stage. two massive long haired dudes living in the 80's were fighting really badly over it and i said chill its a piece of plastic even if joe has played with it. but they battled away. But it was such an amazing night that i would have paid £50 instead of £19.75 to see this amazing live ALIEN! the drum and bass solo was alos very cool and i like matt bissonette not as much as stu hamm but he's good. the only person i didn't like was Galen Hanson. in songs he was doing exactly the same lead as JOE? and he was strumming a lot through songs and it could not be hurd at all. the end to Always With Me Always With You was amazing must have been 3 minutes long. after joe said thanx for lettin us jam. he did something where he played a riff and got the crowd to copy it alos that was really cool. this was my first time seeing stach and i was not dissapointed. it was amazing!!!!!!!!!!!!!!1 my parents went (not with me i hasten to add ) and mum said it compares quite highly to santana when she saw him live. so all these ppl wqho are saying joe was crap compared to santana and clapton (r2c - GRAHAM KING!!!!!) need to shut up cos if they could play half as good i would eat my HAT!!!!!! anyway sorry for boring u bye!!!!!!!!

Superb... absolutely superb... I was a bit pissed off at the start coz I had intentionally bought tickets early as so my relatively small girlfriend could see the stage... unfortunately, everyone rushed forward and so she had to stand on the back of her chair... luckily tho, the bloke behind us didnt seem to have any probs with that THANK YOU SIR!!! I also have to apologise to the guys stood in front of me for my lack of vocab, all i could yell was YEAAAHHH!!! at the top of my lungs as I was in complete shock after crushing... had a sing along with my girlfirend to I believe and overall, everyone who I spoke to in the venue thought it was an amazing gig... I'll DEFINATELY see joe again next year... BTW. I was wearing the black Clapton shirt at the entrance way and my girlfriend was wearing a custard yellow rugby top... I think joe pointed to my girlfriend as well as she looked as though she was 8ft tall and head banging away to a couple of tracks...

I was listening to Beautifull Strange Music on the way to the gig and this got me and my mates in the mood for what was about to land. I am not going to list the songs and how I felt, however the show was tremendous and Joe, you realy are high amongst the masters of our time, however, without ego.
This was truley most demanding show to watch, blink and miss a lick, sneeze and miss a blast. The whole show is a credit to you and your band. Thanks, come again, soon.

Well here goes again after my "other" review never made it. Great night in row "M" but I agree with RC2 about the venue -I've been there 4 times now and they never get the sound completely right, maybe their not used to non vocal sets?? The 7 string numbers were overly distorted (someone shoot the sound engineer) unfortunately, they would have been excellent if the mixing was up to scratch. I don't agree with "not a patch on Santana/Clapton" -I hope you mean the venue and not having a go at the artist? Anyway, I still give it a 10 although I wish Borg Sex, Rubina and Time machine had been played!! The new stuff (apart from the dodgy sound 7 string songs) was excellent. Nice trousers Joe -I was thinking that for an image change perhaps you could borrow your support guests hair?? I still can't believe the concert was 2.5 hours, it went so quickly. Not sure if you should visit the Apollo next time Joe, maybe try the Academy, I've seen a couple of gigs there and the guitar/mixing has been crystal clear (I'm thinking of Gary Moore a couple of years ago). And why do people whinge about not seeing the man after they've waited x amount of hours after the show on the off chance of seeing Joe? That's what "backstage passes" are for, or maybe Joe should take a day off to work his way round the entire crowd for signed autographs and photos. Gimme a break!

WOW what a show, this was my first Joe concert and it is DEFINATELY not going to be my last, Joe opened with Flying In A Blue Dream which was absolutely fantastic!! Joe also did crushing day which definately got the crowd going, there was also some very interesting guitars, Joe used a prototype Ibanez 7 string on mind storm and 7 string obviously, and a cool double necked Ibanez on new last jam which had standard tuning and some other weird tuning! Although the gig was 2.5 hours long the time just flew by and i wish i could have done it all again....Joe Rules....

It's now the morning after the gig and I'm still a bit stunned by it all! I've been to see Joe a few times now and every time he's had the same effect. I've been to see a lot of live bands, some of which have been really spectacular, but when I go to a Joe gig.....well, all I can say is he really is on another level, possibly several levels above anyone else!
This gig was definately one I'll remember 'till I die! Not only did Joe play out of his skin (as only Joe can!) but the rest of the band were brilliant too. As usual Joe's guitars were sounding sweeeet, Matt Bissonette was excellent and Jeff Campitelli was rocking! After the first few songs the mix really seemed to come together (or maybe that was just my ears adjusting). But the thing that made this gig really special, for me anyway, was the Set list. Wow! As well as all the classics and old favourites like Flying in a blue dream, Surfing, Summer Song, Extremist, Satch Boogie and so on, there were a few songs off the new CD ; Mind Storm, Starry Night and others. Then, after an hour of having my Mind Stormed (!) Joe tells the audience that this is when they usually have a break....but not today, oh no. Today we're being treated to a seated Joe with a lovely jangley clean guitar sound playing Headless Horseman (!!) and Midnight (!!!). Then the rest of the band return and, all seated, play I Believe! At this point I'd have been quite happy to go home, satisfied that I'd seen another fantastic Joe gig....but no! how about another hour plus of guitar based instrumental rock!!? Hmmm, Yes please!
After 2 1/2 hours, when it was all over, me and my mate Andy just sat in our seats for 15 minutes (until we were asked to leave!) then we went and sat in the car for another 15-20 minutes, then did the 90 minute drive home, all with hardly any conversation!! Gobsmacked I think you could call it!
I could go on all day about this gig..... but I'm not going to! Bye

AWESOME! The most amazing experience of my life – Joe you are the best. The set was fantastic and the sound was excellent. I, and my friends, were astounded with the bass & drum ‘solo’ towards the very end of the gig and of course you played some of our favourite tunes – Midnight, Summer Song, Crushing Day and of course Surfing With The Alien. I’ll say it again, Joe you are the best, you are a god!!!

Hi. still completely blown away from last night. I've always thought Joe to be the greatest guitarist ever and this certainly made be certain on that fact. This was one of the best nights of my life! I had heard that he wouldn’t be playing many songs off the Crystal Pant album, which I was quite disappointed with because I really wanted to hear ceremony live. But the tracks he played were played so well and sounded so good I forgot about that. This was the first time for me seeing Joe so I didn’t really know what to expect in a live show off him. But it surpassed anything like I would thought it would be. Belly Dancer, Summer Song, Surfing With The Alien and I Believe were the stand out tracks for me. Thank you so so much Joe for the great gig. See you next time you come to Manchester.

Joe's playing was great, as was Matt's and Jeff's. Not so sure about Joe's trousers though... Sound was good. Only downer was that we spent 2 hours waiting outside to see Joe and hopefully get a CD signed, but he apparantly left the back way. Never mind, got 2 hours of music anyway.

The show was just about to beggin, but i needed to ,you know go, buti couldnt because i was too nervous about seeing joe. Then i got back and the support was about to start, when i find out i have lost my satch shades, Calamity. I managed to find them ,and the support act was great, ned playing a frettless!! accoustic, it was awsome, then out comes joe and everybody runs to the stage,so naturally i wasnt going to just sit there. First song was flying in a blue dream, it was great even better than straight off the cd, next was CRUSHING DAY!! wow i couldnt believe this. He also played ice 9, some from his new albumn, belly oriental melody, mind storm, new last jam and 7 string. Also cooll no 9 was played with a really coool beginnig.I loved the mystical potato hed groove thing, rasberry delta V was cool with lots of effects,I couldnt believe it Joe sang i believe. i was just soo in my own world by this time, just gawping at the hands of god, joe sang really well and i joined in, the audience love him! Headless horseman then followed by midnight, both tapping songs, and awsome at that, the played surfing(of course) that ruled too. They all took a bow then went off stage, then came back on and gave us a little satch boogie, and last but not least friends. Some guy next to me in the audience just got up on stage and joe shook him by the hand, WOW lucky guy, joe threw picks after most songs but unfourtunately i couldnt get any(boo hoo), oh my golly gosh when i finally managed to get to the front of the stage(right at the front) joe looked at my and pointed to me and smiled, probably because i had a totally bald head and sun glasses on. Overall it was the best concert i have ever been to and will be looking forward to seeing him again SOON hopefully, thanks to the rest of the band, jeff ruled on the drums, and matt on the bass was cool, also to the rhythm guitarist, and the crew ollie P.s i am sorry but santana doesnt cmpare to satch

FUCKING BRILLIANT that was the first Satch gig i've ever been to but definitely not the last the opening was perfect Crushing day was play'd second half of the new album was played with joes 7 string he didn't take a half time break instead he played midnight and the headless horesman with the lights dimm'd down to give a subdued feel i thing joe swore just before he played the haedless horesman he said "u guy's know how to be quite (sarcasm tone) i'm gonna have to play some real subtle shit" which is when he played the subtle shit as the evening went on The Extreamist was played and resberry jam delta-v which was brilliant the areana was amazing to because with it being small on matter where you sit u get a good seat my eye sight is awfull but i could see joe quite clear with his psycadelic fire pants there was a bass solo too when joe went off we cheared and clapped and asked him to come back on and he did (not one to let his fans down!) he played Satch boogie and friends before this he played Always with me always with you when the first note was played we all knew what it was and cheared come to think of it we cheared quite alot the only down side was the security ? some guy jumped the stage towards the end when joe was doing the introduction thing on bass is matt beisonetee (or whatever) on drums jeff campiteli and then he said and i don't who this guy is!?!?! all round good stuff if you've need been to a satch gig then GO i'll thank your self for it and joe! must do it all again next year!!!!

Saw my first gig (Rush) at the Apollo in 1978 and it is is a GREAT venue. the floor slopes so EVERYBODY gets a good view and the sound is usually good. last nights sound was AWESOME, very loud with Joe's guitar crystal clear and with all the other instruments perfectly balanced.
Is there a better opening than 'flying in a blue dream'? if so, iv'e not heard it in 24 years of concertgoing. My highlights were an AWESOME 'mystical potato head groove thing' an EPIC 'rasberry jam delta-v' with effects flying from speaker to speaker. And an EMOTIONAL 'always with me, always with you'. The tracks off the new album were also tremendous, especially 'new last jam' and 'oriental melody'
To cap off a great night i had won aftershow passes and after Joe had signed my vinyl copies of 'not of this earth', 'surfing with the alien', and 'flying in a blue dream', i actually TOUCHED the hands that had given us 2 hours and thirty minutes of MUSICAL MAGIC.

Have to start by saying WOOOOOOOO!!!!!! The set was 10 out of 10. Couldn't have asked for more old stuff, Crushing Day and I Believe were two songs i have never heard live, fantastic. I was sat in front of the mixing desk and this is my only complaint!!!!! I'm not sure what concert the sound guys were listening to but from where i was the mix wasn't very good. I have been to the Apollo to see Joe 4 times and this was the worst mix i have heard. But anyway it didn't spoil the concert and still can't wait for the next tour. But i have one question for you!!!! Did anybody miss Stu Hamm last night???????

Great venue, the hall had a nice large roof inside and this really helped the sound to travel! Pretty much spot on from Joe all the way and of course Jeff and Matt keeping the rhythm tight! Well done! I'll definately be on the lookout for more of Joe's shows in the future. Please come back! I'd recommend anyone going to see him, he absolutely got the sound spot on and you couldn't ask for a more value for money experience in terms of how many songs they played! Final word......OUTSTANDING!
