A bit of a mixed bag for me with this show, I went to the Crystal Planet tour show at Birmingham many years a go and loved it but this time not so much! The reasons for this is simply the sound was crap from where we were sitting (6 rows from the front off to the right). The drums were the main problem with them being so loud in comparison to everyhting els is drowned out the rest of the band. The bass pedal in particular was so loud it completely dominated the whole of the bottom end to the point that we could hardly hear anything of stu on the bass or any of Galens guitar!

The biggest disappointment was not being able to hear what Joe was doing, the melodies came through OK but as soon as he played a solo or anyhting faster or with more gain on it all turned to 'mush' with no definition between the notes at all missing all the subtlties that make his playing so great. The only consolation came with the ballard tracks as then the volume dropped, the gain dropped and suddenly we could hear most of what was being played.

I hate to put out all this negativity but felt it needs to be said as I had been looking forward to this gig for a long time and it was ruined by something that perhaps could be avoided next time??? and I went away frustrated because I could tell that the band were on form and I knew I'd just missed out on another chance to hear the best instrumental rock songs and guitar playing of all time!

My seat was three rows from the front, and off to the side, so the sound from where I was sitting was poor, a common complaint at the venue, However, I was blown away by the performance, especially the first three songs - there was a real attempt by the band to get the gig rocking, which unfortunately didn't work on a very sedate crowd. Personally, I couldn't stop grinning for the first twenty minutes!

Credit to Joe for the two audience participation numbers I Just Wanna Rock (what a phenomenal start!) and of course Crowd Chant. In between, some sublime guitar and classic tracks from the best guitarist in the world - highlights for me were my two favoirite tracks from the album - Overdriver and Diddle Y A Doo Dat, along with One Big Rush and especially I Just Wanna Rock.

If there was a dip in the middle, it was partly down to the unresponsiveness of the audience - admittedly this wasn't helped by over zealous venue security staff forcing everyone to remain seated. Only the encore got the crowd to their feet, by which time of course it was too late.

I was lucky enough to meet Joe before the gig, so the show itself was a bonus, and the sound problems and comatose audience didn't spoil an unforgettable experience. Come back soon, Joe!

Totally amazing show, exactly what I expected it to be! Never seen Joe live before and compared to all of the other shows I have seen in recent times the bands sound was really tight. I agree with the review before mine and only commented to my son after the support act had been on that their below par sound mix had taken the top off my hearing!

Excellent live action. Beautiful lighting and visuals too.

New explosive material to start with and warm the theatre up, classic ending (viz. the 2006 tour); a bit of a trough in the middle maybe, which left some of the more casual fans such as my partner a bit stretched. A lot of well known material all in all and a great deal of the excellent last album too; just a pity great songs such as Trains of Angels do not make it live. Don't get me wrong though, I loved all of it and it was a real treat to be able to see this show and Mr Satriani's casual ease and visible pleasure to entertain us!

I Just Wanna Rock / Overdriver / Satch Boogie / Ice 9 / Diddle-Y-A-Doo-Dat / Flying In A Blue Dream / Ghosts / Revelation / Super Colossal / One Big Rush / Musterion / Out Of The Sunrise / Time Machine w/Extended Intro / Cool #9 / Andalusia / Bass Solo inc. Going To California / Crying / The Mystical Potato Head Groove Thing / Always With You, Always With Me / Surfing With The Alien / Crowd Chant / Summer Song

PS: The first part was interesting although a bit loud!! It spoilt my hearing for the show proper a bit. :o(

Hi Joe, I just wanted to let you know how much me and my young nephew enjoyed this gig. I've been into your music since the early days and have lost count of the number of times I've seen you play. Of this gig all I can say is this, the sound was fantastic, the new album songs were awesome, the whole set was just amazing and I left the venue a very happy man. It just confirmed to me what I have thought since I first heard you play, you are, by far, the best guitarist on the planet.

After deducting a point after the Birmingham show for the fact that he wouldn't be around again for another 2 years, we decided to do something about it and got tickets to go to Nottingham.

And what a great idea that was. From being down at the front at the Symphony Hall we ended up in Tier 2 at the Royal Centre and had a great view of all that was going on.

From where we were sat, the sound was absolutely superb. Very clear and sharp. Glad to report that my ears were ringing nicely! They had clearly run out of time at the SH to sound check properly, but last night it was crystal clear.

Same show as the week before and still JUST as brilliant.

Only down side was the crowd who appeared to be semi comatose. Have been to A LOT of concerts over the last 30 years or so, but have never seen such a dull audience. During Summer Song, Galen was walking around the front of the stage trying to get perople to stand up. If you can't stay on your feet for the last song in a Satch show, you don't deserve to be there.

Joe, as ever, thanks. Can't wait for number 7, some time in 2010 I guess.

as always.....impeccable! Flawless shred, he's still got it! Only critisism is, Joe, you gotta drop 'out of the sunrise'. I was dying to hear 'up in flames'! I loved diddle-y-a-doo-dat!! very cool! Thought it was great seeing Stu back on bass, he's one of the best!! You should keep him as a mainstay like Geoff. Not sure about Galen. The guy can play, but he never looks 'right' as he never seems to look as though he's enjoying himself! Respect to him nonetheless. Excellent show guys!

wow what a gig. This is the 5th time i have seen Joe, and possibly the best. There was non of the self indulgent big intro's or outro's of the super collosal tour, with the exception of Always with me, which to be honest realy does improve an already great song. Good light show with a back drop were also most welcome. Great to see Stu back on bass, and yes what a solo it was. Galen on rythmn guitar could also be heard, which he could not on the collosal tour. Jeff on drums was his usual brilliant self. The set was really good, with some old tunes seeing the light of day again, such as the brilliant time machine and cryin. Not heard Ghost before and cant find it anywhere. Great tune, ideas anybody?. Took my 11 year old son with me. It was his first gig. One he wont forget. The venue was super, great sound, despite being very loud, (or is it me getting old). Rivald the Birmingham Symphony Hall, where i saw the Super Collosal tour 2 years ago. Pete J
