House of Blues Orlando, The performance of Gilbert, Pertrucci, and Satch was absolutley fantastic! Of course Joe was by far the best musician onstage Friday night. Although HOB has great "acoustics" and was built specifically for smaller venues I have to rate the overall experience at the House of Blues a mediocre 6. Unless you are a VIP or want to stand on the floor in front of the stage all night the viewing of the concert absolutley SUCKS! There are these huge freaking columns blocking the view of the stage. We did the "pass the line" thing... basically you buy stuff from the HOB store or eat in the restaurant and you supposedly get ahead of the line. However, everyone else is doing the same thing and you stand in another line for a chance to get in early so you can grap a stool. My wife and I had a wonderful evening and as I said we enjoyed the music... but you kinda walk away feeling cheated when you spend that kind of cash to "see" an act in person, and have obstructed views of the stage. HEY JOE THE BOB CARR HAS UNOBSTUCTED VIEWS!

Well our trip stated off with me and my buddies leaving a bit late, and we got to HOB a little bit late and couldn't eat there and get pass the line because it was about a 70 minute wait, so we went over to Wolfgang Pucks and got express food got in line a 6:30 wow I have never seen a line so big in my life.

When we got in we just went upstairs to the upper deck and hung around got some food and drinks

Then Paul Gilbert started off the place went crazy, Rusty Old Boat was very catchy and everyone was groving to it.

Then John Petrucci came out i'm not really a big fan but it was still pretty decent.

Next Satch would be coming, so me and my friends worked our way into the floor level to get right there, Satch started off with War and the setlist was as follows War, One Big Rush, Flying In a Blue Dream, Cool #9, Super Colossal, Satch Boogie, Circles, Mystical Potato Head Groove Thing, Surfing With the Alien, and Always With Me, Always with You

into the G3 Jam which was killer loudest jam i've ever heard it was so good though and to top it off at the end of the jam when Jeff threw his drum sticks somehow I caught one and I wasn't even trying for it.

As expected, the show was excellent! I must say, Paul and John surpassed my expectations. And as for the sound (as some others have commented on), it was dead on. EVERYONE had perfect volume in the mix...even the keys in Paul's band (is that his wife?). The House of Blues in Orlando is an incredible place to see a concert...especially one of this caliber.

We were treated to an impromptu mini drum and bass solo during John's set due to tech difficulties on his guitar and board...so Mike Portnoy and Dave LaRue picked up the slack! Definitely a little bonus treat there! You gotta wonder if they tell Mike backstage not to go too crazy as to not steal from the show!!! John's music is just as good as the others, but his stage presence is, ummm, a bit less than the others. But its not really a problem since he has one of the greatest drummers in the world behind him flinging sticks, smashing cymbals, throwing in rolls and fills, and god knows what else behind his plexi-glass drum set!

Paul Gilbert was really great too...actually inspired me to go grab his latest CD. He played the song "Rusty Boat" which really got me hooked. In my opinion, Paul BELONGS on stage at a concert like this not only for his skill, but his presence. Laughing, talking, throwing in mannerisms here and there...he's fun to watch!

Then there's Joe...what can you say?!?! The ONLY thing I could have wanted more of from the show is his set. It almost seemed shorter than the other guys!

The jam was a lot of fun. EVERYONE on stage was perfectly mixed...and the sound guys did a great job of bringing whoever was leading up in volume.

Excellent show! Now I just need to get this knot rubbed out of my back from standing for 4 hours!!!!
