This was the first time I saw Joe live, and it was absolutely great. He managed to pull the entire venue to right in front of the stage at the encore (Surfing With The Alien) - everyone was just drawn there like magic! Such a good night!

This was easily the best concert i have ever been to,in terms of shear musicality, virtuosity, and showmanship Joe Satriani is the ultimate beyond words. Seeing bands like Megadeth,Slayer, and even Motorhead are great, but this guy is a different beast. His music is melodic, heavy, experimental and devoid of cliche which i find to be a breath of fresh air. The only thing that spoiled the concert was that crack head woman stealing his shades,i hope that hasn't put Joe off coming here again as i think he looked shocked and bemused to say the least. I myself done something unpredictable that night,i got on stage and shook his hand, but i don't think he was enjoying the moment as much as i did but it is something that i will never forget. And for the people saying that i shouldn't have done what i did, well you would do the same if you had the guts.

Well to start with I purchased a really cool t-shirt (the Engines of Creation one.) just before the concert. The Clyde Auditorium has really good acoustics so the concert sounded amazing, Joe was playing all the favorites, and some of the new stuff at that time. By the end of the show some girl had run on stage, she ran right up to Joe and "stole his sunglasses right off his face" it was mad, but Joe cool as ever just stood there playing away and laughing. Though actually i think he was pretty shocked. At the end of the show me and my girlfriend were leaving the concert/building when all of a sudden we saw these girls run round the back of the concert venue. Wandering what was going on we followed them round the back, were we found more people waiting. Then this security guy comes out and says "Mr Satriani will be out in a few minutes to sign autographs etc." At this point i was like cool i might get to see him rush by. More and more people showed up though and it had been a while since this guy had first come out. Then he came out again looked at everyone and says "Right theres to many of you, so we're gonna bring ya in in groups of about 6." This was "unbelieveable", i was actually gonna meet Joe Satriani. When it was my groups turn to go in, i grabbed my girlfriends camera off her as she got put in the group behind me. I was just walking in when all of a sudden he was there, right in front of me. All I could manage to say was, "Well done, that was a great gig Joe, and shake his hand." (Dame, if only i could go back in time!) He signed my concert ticket and I got my picture taken with Joe and so did my girlfriend. Also i forgot to mention earlier i was fortunate enough to find one of the actual plectrums he used during the concert lying on the floor at the end of the concert. Everybody was looking for them, but i still managed to find one. It has the Engines of Creation cover on one side of it and on the other side Joe's signature. The best night of my life. WOW!

Joe returned to Scotland with his best setlist ever, mixing new tracks from 'Engines...' with some great stuff from the back catalogue. Tracks like 'Cool#9' and 'Big Bad Moon' were especially well received, the latter resulting in the audience leaving there seats and making for the front of the stage. Joe seemed to relish having the crowd so near. It reminded me of the first time I saw Joe, in the SECC. That was an all standing gig and perhaps Joe wished this one was too. With the crowd on their feet, the atmosphere grew to be electric, and Joe was ready to give his all. Shame that was the last song. Without doubt the best Satch gig I've seen. Next time will take something special, but I'm sure Joe can pull it off. Maybe it'll be a G3 gig?????????

Fantastic!! This was the second time at the Clyde Auditorium I have seen Joe play - the last being the Crystal Planet tour. Ignoring the idiot that stole your glasses, I thought the place had such a brilliant atmosphere, even though we were all sitting down!! I truly hope you'll be releasing a new album soon with the inevitable visit to 'Sunny' Scotland!!! Thanks.

Hi Joe...

I have seen you perform live three times: Glasgow Barrowlands(with hair; Edinburgh Playhouse(with hair and tartan troosers) and SECC (worst venue in Scotland...nae hair)

I have read all the other reviews of this gig and to be honest I thought you looked a bit depressed. You all played fabuloulsy as always but there was not the same atmosphere as I have experienced when I saw you at Barrowlands during your "Flying" tour. My main criticism is of the security at SECC though. Who ever has heard of a rock gig where the audience sit down? The ushers were like Nazis marching up and down telling people to sit down if they were doing anything more than tapping their feet! I'm glad a few broke ranks at the end and stomped the stage ( the theft of your glasses notwithstanding...that was shan) because I thought it was then that you realised you had made an impact on the crowd who up until that point were fairly inanimate owing to constraints placed upon them by the aformentioned Nazis.

I have heard a lot of sceptical criticism of the "Engines" album and I wondered if you felt you had perhaps made a mistake. For what it counts Joe, I think "Engines" is one of your finest and most exiting albums. For me it expresses true freedom of creation of music. The feel of "Until we say Goodbye" especially with the drum style is one of the most beautiful songs I've ever heard.

I met you about ten years ago after the Flying tour concert when you were signing records. I had been having a rough time with internal issues and had recently discovered your music. I felt strongly enough then to tell you at the signing that your music had changed my life (You probably cringe at all this..I know i would) but it's true. Your music makes a HUGE impact on people and in my case gave me a reason to explore the guitar and to look at life differently. Your music continues to have a positive impact on my life. So you are doing something right as far as I am concerned.

Possibly I am totally wrong and you enjoyed the whole shooting match, but anyway thanks for coming and playing for so long.

Your song "I believe" sums it all up for me.

Thanks,

Alex

Hey Joe. Hey all. Well, it's been months now.. Xmas has come and gone and we're into a whooooooooole new year (wow!) and I still dream about the night I saw Joe and his merry men take the stage in our fair city of Glasgow. Ok, so it had its fair share of low points (the bawbag that stole Joe's $666 sunglasses, those stupid women who danced around and the stage invasion that needed serious choreography at the end!) but the highs by far outdid the lows.. Cast your mind back.. the lights go down... the first two notes of 'Time' rumble from the stage... Aaaaaaah!!! I'm there now!!! hehe... Joe, you're the reason I play guitar.. To see you and hear your infinitely-inspiring music is breathtaking every time I am afforded the divine pleasure. Please come back to Glasgow (that's GLASGOW!!!) as soon as you possibly can.. I don't care who supports, just as long as you come.. You can bring Vai if he's not busy that day (just kidding!! hehe..) Peace and love.. Ian Devlin..

Well Joe, This certainly was the first time I ever saw you play live, and it was this performance that said to me, f*ck pop music, this is unreal!! But, you DIDN'T PLAY UP IN THE SKY!!! Oh well, the rest of the show made up for it, I must say. Anyways, I think that it would be advisable if you came back atleast within 2 years, don't make it another 5 year wait. I'll be 20 then. I want to see you when I'm 17. I think everyone who attended that performance will agree with me when I say, PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE COME BACK TO US. And, it would be good to have a G3 gig over in Glasgow. Perhaps you could arrange something to that effect????? Anyways, 1000000 out of 1 for that performance, and when in the hell is your next album coming out??? My suggestion is that you come away from the kind of hip hop drum beat and hyper-space sounds, and do another like Surfing with the Alien plus Crystal planet together. That would be unreal, just like your Glasgow gig. Okay, so I've probably bored y'all to death, but I am voicing my opinions. Thanx, Reesh.

Me and Osk' thought that the 5th semiquaver in the minor 11th reversed tapped arppegio during Mystical Potato Head Groove thing was around 20% of a hemidemisemiquaver out!

Aye Right.

What we could hear of Joe's playing was 100% class but whether it was where we were seated or if it was just a general sound problem we couldn't here Joe's guitar loud enough until the second half.

Time was a mental piece to open with and your french? dude was class on backing also.

Like the new album - when are you writing the next one?

I thought the gig was magnificent. The only thing I didn't like was that idiot of a girl trying to get me and my pal up to dance. She was the one who eventually got up onto the stage,Kissed Joe then stole his glasses. She made a fool of herself all night....I also thought that the solo by Stu Hamm was the best solo I've ever heard on a base.Haste ye back SOON..mcb...

"Phenomenal" is the only way to describe the musical feast this fanatical Glasgow crowd were treated to. All through the show Joe kept most of audience glued to the edge of their seats, those he didn't decided to dance in the aisles, especially the big hairy blokes. However, when Joe struck up the first few chords to big bad moon, the seats emptied, the fat blokes were joined by hundreds of bouncing people and the stage was invaded my numerous fans- girls wanting Joe to tweak their strings and guys wanting a plectrum or just to get a bit closer to the great man. The inadequate security response was really quite amusing, one stuffy looking man in a suit versus about fifty fans was not good odds, but soon the roadies came on and managed to clear the stage of the fans. The only other time I've witnessed such fan worshipping was at a PJ and Duncan concert. The old favourites were played magically and the new material went down well. All in all the night was wonderful.

A bit late in the day, but what the hell! Dunno what happened with the support but there was none at Manchester the next night either. Would have been good to see some other geetar dude (Dave Sharman, where are you?) But, it was our gain as the man cranked 'em out for well over two hours. A great mix of old 'n' new stuff although the sound problems early on spoiled some of the "Surfing..." tracks slightly. I was also embarrassed for Joe at the end when some fans thought it was all over and invaded the stage. Back to the all-standing SECC next time maybe? Hope it ain't too long 'til then.

Awesome! Better than `98 by some stretch. Only down point was the somewhat poor sound quality before the break... afterwards it was all sorted out though. Thought that the Crystal Planet track came across best live - especially Love Thing - the opening 16 bars almost brought tears to my eyes!

Also, opening with Time was a great way to kick off the show - straight into the raw stuff! Still haven`t seen Midnight live yet - get it on the setlist for your next visit!!!

Absolutely brilliant show - this is the 5th time I've seen Joe and the 3rd for my wife, and this one was definitely the best. No support band was the best idea yet becuase we got more of the man himself - 2½ hours of jaw dropping stuff ! Joe, if you play the Auditorium next time round, can you ask the security staff to let us down to the stage again as it's impossible to sit still at your gigs. The icing on the cake was you siging stuff for us at the stage door at the end, it was a really nice gesture and it was great to meet Joe and the guys in the band. Thanks ! A superb performance encompasing all the classic songs and a good mix of new materials. A great bass solo from Mr Stu Hamm moving effortlessly between Crystal Planet, a classical bass piece, tapping, and finishing in a country style. How does he do it? A big mosh pit developed during Big Bad Moon and steadily grew until the end. An encore consisting of Friends and Surfing was played. The only downside was that there was no signing session afterwards. All in all a great show. Thanx!

Yo! I missed the show in Austin, Texas because I was here in Scotland...but I managed to catch the show in Glasgow. Mad props to Joe and the band....you are all excellent musicians!! The show was amazing.....I wish I had been in Austin to see you at the Music Hall because there weren't seats!! I was in the balcony in Glasgow, but you didn't have to be close to the stage to appreciate Eric's licks on the keyboard, Jeff pounding it out, Stu's funky basslines, or Joe's cutting guitar solos. I have never been to a concert which made my jaw drop so low....except maybe seeing Joe at G3!!!

Excellent show guys......Stu, I can't wait to buy your new album!! Good luck to you.

Cheers!! Hope you enjoyed Scotland!

By the way, I loved hearing "Ceremony".....and "Friends" rocked the house!!!! Also, thanks for slowing it up for a really sweet "Lovething"...and it led to a great bass solo from Stu. Absolutely amazing concert.

The amazingly talented Mr Satriani once again delivered an outstanding performance. I was left in awe of this guitar God as he played music from both old and new albums. The flawless performance by Joe was also matched by his equally talented band. Stu Hamm was amazing as usual and his Bass solo really got the crowd going. Eric caudiex was brilliant as well particularly his guitar playing during Borg Sex and Jeff campitelli has a simply astonishing sense of timing. Joe is one of the coolest guy's I have ever seen. He lapped up the audience reaction towards the end of the show and he even seemed to be enjoying the attention of the stage invaders. Keep on rockin Joe and don't leave it to long before you come back to Scotland

Before I do anything else . . . Stu Hamm is AWESOME!!!!! The man is a genius! There is no other word for what he did with that Bass last night! Now Satch . . . it goes without saying that he was brilliant, fast, noisy . . .and bald. He's also exciting, awe-inspiring, and small (!)[He makes a lotta noise for such a wee guy(!)] I've seen him 4 times now I guess, and I definately prefer when these's a rhythm guitarist behind him as well as Jeff and Stu. They were tight and strong and funky, a good cross section of stuff - even the new ones sounded good live - I wasn't sure about them originally. . . Well worth the ticket price - 2 and a half hours worth!! - despite no support . . . You have to see this man and his chums live - you can't just live only on the albums. One small gripe - too many tunes start off with high-hat then tune then widdly-widdly, then tune again . . . exactly the same arrangement . . .just a minor complaint(!) Thanks, Joe, for signing stuff for us big - and not so big(!) - kids at the stage door after the show - you're a gentleman! One last thing, lets hope he NEVER plays the Clyde Auditorium again, as sitting at a Satch concert is definately NOT ON!!

I'm sorry for this, but . . . ROCK ON ! ! ! ! !

Brilliant gig, good to hear 'Ceremony' live, touch of class. Well done in covering the support band slot, last minute hiccup no doubt. I was sorry to hear that a group of guys waiting for 7 hours outside, never even got a hello? Come on Joe 'stress' is bad, but not even a coupla autographs went there way! Your perfromance was second to none on stage, but off it, you need to try to give those guys, genuine fans, a wee bit of your time. I myself wasn't there during the day, waiting, but I know how dedicated some of those guys are, I've taught them guitar lessons and they are as serious about playing as you are yourself. Sorry for the moan but I ain't out to kiss ass, just to get credit where credits due. Looking towards the next album/tour for your amendments. Yours Faithfully, Eckythump.
