The guitar that Steve is donating for Cliff is a 20th Anniversary JEM. Steve used this guitar for the duration of the 2007 String Theories Tour. He used it on the Grammy Nominated song "Now We Run" which is featured on the Platinum award winning DVD "Where The Wild Things Are".
Here is the official write up from Ibanez:
The Steve Vai JEM 20TH limited edition electric guitar commemorates two decades (1987 - 2007) of the extraordinary and groundbreaking JEM Series of Ibanez guitars. But this time his JEM isn't the original basswood or the later alder. It's made of something completely different, it's got completely new pickups... and, believe it or not, it LIGHTS UP.
The Japanese handcrafted premium acrylic body with 3-dimensional JEM multicolor design is striking enough in the daylight, but the body can be illuminated by 8 internal green LEDs behind the bridge pickup. The lights are activated by a push/pull pot on the tone control. Pickups are made in the U.S.A. TransJems, designed and manufactured by DiMarzio® exclusively for the JEM 20TH guitar to provide optimum performance with its dense acrylic body. Edge Pro tremolo bridge and pearl/abalone vine fretboard inlay wrap up this amazing guitar.
Only 500 were made available worldwide with just 200 in the United States.
